Opportunities Unlimited
Opportunities Unlimited is a multi-tiered mentoring program for young women with employment barriers that helps them develop employability skills through four key program components:
- Professionally delivered workshops and training modules;
- Office and business etiquette workshops and mentor training;
- A paid work placement;
- The support of a mentor, mentoring workshops and peer-to-peer mentoring.
After thoughtful assessment and through four weeks of intensive in-class training with the use of examples and role playing, a paid six-month internship and the facilitated support of a mentor, participants in this program obtain the skills and confidence necessary to champion a better life for themselves (and their children) as they set and meet goals. Participants are monitored and marked, asked for feedback and involved in activities that raise funds.
Of the over 75 women who have participated in this program since its inception in 2004, 84 per cent have obtained full time employment or have enrolled in continuing education or training programs.
