Opportunities Unlimited LogoEmployability Skills Training, Mentoring & Work Placement for young women with barriers to employment (MORE)

 

Opportunities Unlimited™ is an innovative mentoring and internship program for young women under the age of 30 with employment barriers.  The program runs twice a year, with 15 young women experiencing four weeks of full -time, paid training. This in-class instruction teaches key employability skills. Upon completion of the training period, 12 of the most motivated women move on to the next phase, a six month paid work placement.  During this employment phase, each participant is paired with a mentor who helps her cultivate her self-confidence and prepare to join the workforce.

 

Program participants must be female and under the age of 30; not working or going to school; and not in receipt of EI in the last two years; and must be one of the following: a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, landed immigrant or granted Refugee Status in Canada.

 

This program boasts an impressive success rate of at least 84%, with some sessions reaching 100%.  Success is achieved when participants obtain full time work or admission to full-time education or training within three months of program completion.

 


  

Steering Your Career LogoMonthly Evening Workshops: Career-focused, Skills Enhancement for young women (MORE)

 

Steering Your Career™ is an innovative program designed for young women who have faced employment barriers in the past and are fully committed to enhancing their personal and professional skills.  Workshops are held on the second Wednesday of every month and is open to any young woman under the age of 30 wanting to enhance their skills. This program is made possible through the generous support of Macquarie Foundation and TELUS

Women in Politics and Government LogoA Career Learning Day designed for young women in grades 8-12 (MORE)

 

This non-partisan event is an outstanding opportunity for young women across the Greater Toronto Area, (GTA) to learn first-hand about the Canadian political process, to become engaged with civic life and to find out about the many career options available in these sectors.

 

Program Goals:

  • Non-partisan event that provides an outstanding opportunity for young women to gain awareness of the diverse career opportunities in politics and government 
  • Encourage greater understanding of the need for young people to take interest in the political process and exercise their right to vote

 

Target Audience:

  • 350+ young women per day  -  primarily high school students; plus
  • their teachers (approximately 40 educators per day); plus
  • 40 women per day who have careers in politics at all levels of government

 

Event Format:

  • interactive “talk show format”
  • this unique program enables participants to interact with more than 35 women working in various areas of politics and government via round table activities, interactive workshops, keynote presentations, and panel discussions
  • Participants will interact directly with more than 35 women working in various areas of politics and government

Operation Start Up! LogoEntrepreneurship “Train the Trainer” Program for elementary and high school students (MORE)

 

Through a "train-the-trainer" approach, this innovative project will arm youth with the inspiration and skills needed to learn about small business development and entrepreneurship. Developed by Youth In Motion, this innovative project will offer educators a practical enhancement to their curriculum, support them with resource materials and organizational expertise, and provide 10 two-hour entrepreneurship-focused, interactive workshops for senior student representatives from various high schools, who will then go back to their peers and share their experiences.

 


 

 

 

 World Changing Careers

 A Career Learning Day: Choose a GREEN career to Make the World a Better Place! (MORE)

Organized by Youth in Motion in partnership with Changing Climates Educational Society. This initiative in Vancouver will address the lack of awareness of many high school students of the ways that their career can shape a sustainable future and an exploration of the many ‘green’ careers available both now and in the future. Many students are unaware of both learning and work opportunities available to them in this diverse and exciting career field. Educators will benefit from exposure to this knowledge to assist their students to think about their careers differently.
