"It was really great to see fellow Top 20™ winners with environmental interests here in Copenhagen on the youth team." "It became really clear to me that Top 20 winners in general play a tremendous role in Canada in social activism and leadership."
- Jasmeet Sidhu, Social Innovator, Top 20 Under 20 Alumni, 2007
In Copenhagen sharing the hallways with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President Barack Obama, were three Top 20 under 20™ winners, Jasmeet Sidhu (2007), Yvonne Su (2007), and B.J. Bodnar (2008).
Jasmeet, Yvonne and B.J. attended the conference as members of the official Canadian Youth Delegation, a group of 26 youth between the ages of 18-26 who currently work to advocate for strong climate policies, interact with Canadian negotiators, and participate in the vibrant civil society action that took place at the conference.
The selection process to be a part of the delegation was a highly competitive one, with thousands of applications received from all across Canada to attend the summit in Copenhagen.
During their time in Copenhagen, the youth delegates were able to meet with several Canadian and international leaders, including former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore, Maude Barlow (National chairperson of the Council of Canadians), Shawn A-in-chut Atleo (National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations) and several Canadian politicians.
During their time at the summit, Jasmeet and Yvonne also collaborated and produced video and blogs about the conference for the Toronto Star and the Huffington Post.
"It was really great to see fellow Top 20 winners with environmental interests here in Copenhagen on the youth team," said Jasmeet. "It became really clear to me that Top 20 winners in general play a huge role in Canada in activism and leadership."
